Kids and teens learning to draw manga characters at Art Space Studio manga drawing class in Auckland
About the course

More than drawing — a craft, a community, and real confidence.

From first confidence to a style that's truly their own — every lesson blends fundamentals with the characters kids actually want to draw. They leave each term with a portfolio, new friends, and skills that carry into any creative path.

Drawing fundamentals

Proportion, gesture, perspective and construction — the quiet skills that make every character look right.

Character design

Faces, expressions, hair, costume and personality — students invent original heroes, not just copies.

Digital illustration

Line art, flat colour, shading and lighting on a drawing tablet — the tools professional artists use.

Story & panels

Panel flow, speech bubbles and pacing — kids turn single drawings into short manga pages that tell a story.

From our parents

The bit that makes it all worth it.

“My daughter used to say she ‘couldn't draw’. One term later she's filling sketchbooks and teaching her little brother. The mentors are so patient.”

Emily R.parent of Sana, 12

“Proper teaching, not just babysitting with crayons. He's learning real technique and can't wait to go every week.”

David L.parent of Kai, 15

“The termly exhibition made her so proud. Seeing her artwork framed on the wall — she stood a little taller that day.”

Good questions

Everything parents ask us.

Does my child need any experience?

Not at all. Our Sprout level starts from the very first line. We place every child by a short trial, so beginners and keen drawers each land in the right group.

What ages is the course for?

Ages 8 to 16. Groups are set by ability rather than age, so your child is always working alongside peers at a similar stage.

Do we need to bring materials or a tablet?

No — everything is provided, including drawing tablets in our digital lab. Just bring your child and their imagination.

When are lessons, and how long are they?

Weekly 90-minute lessons after school and at weekends. A full term is 12 lessons; we'll share the current timetable when you enquire.

How does the new term work — and how do we book?
